About
Cooking is an art, as is writing.
As much admiration as I've always had for art, I've never been good with a paintbrush or pencil. Writing, on the other hand, was another affair. An escape from reality, a chance to get in touch with my creative side, a space to pour my soul and heart out. Do you see the parallel with cooking? The food we cook and the work we write bears our handwriting, we put a piece of us, our personality, into it.
I've never been one to follow rules. I despised them, they bound me. That's why I am fond of creative activities like cooking and writing. Because creativity and rules don't go together. When you cook, you have a free hand. Of course, you often follow a written recipe. But no one forces you to stick to it. Dish I've cooked 100 times will never taste the same. Because sometimes I feel like adding new spices, other times I feel like keeping it as simplistic as possible, and that's the beauty of it. That I have that freedom. To experiment and to try.
My goal is to encourage you to do that. Take my recipes as a base, but don't stick to it blindly. Don't be afraid to experiment and put yourself into the cooking. Your personality.
What if it doesn't work out and I mess it up? Oh, honey. That's the beauty of life and cooking. You either create something new and wonderful or you learn a lesson and do it differently and better next time. But you gotta have the courage to try and create something new.
Do you know what is the main goal of a human being? Why do we live? If we look at it purely scientifically, our primary goal is reproduction. When we look at it from a much broader perspective, to reproduce means to create something new. And here we come to the heart of the problem.
I think we are a generation of utterly and deeply sad people because we have forgotten to create. We consume more than we create. We follow the rules set by other people and suppress our creative side. When was the last time you have created something? Not something your boss told you, something your soul wanted.
People started looking for the easy way out, they stopped writing, reading, and cooking. Instead, they started watching videos and ordering food.
I'm going to write for you, the people who still find joy in reading, in cooking, and in creating. I am a strong believer you still exist.
Hopefully you will leave this site inspired to create something new. If so, I'll be genuinely happy. And if you read my blog carefully, you'll see why I chose the title That's what she cooked.
Let’s create some beautiful dishes together, shall we? Bon appetities, mes amis!
